The PH Piano Studio - Piano Studio Policy
Lessons - Taught by Dr. Jessica Pacheco Hjelmstad and Mr. Robert Hjelmstad
- Private piano lessons are provided on a weekly basis in 30, 45 and 60 minute time slots. Trial lessons are the same price as regular lessons, but they do not require further commitment
- Piano method books are used in the lessons and are tailored to fit the needs of each student. This method is the best for students who are likely to be practicing on their own. Parental interaction is required for traditional piano. Any piano music will be purchased by the parents online or at their store of preference
- Students are expected to be prepared for the lessons each week, and they are encouraged to ask any questions they may have between lessons by calling the instructor. Calls will be returned promptly. If parents have any questions concerning their child’s work, they are welcome to call during business hours
- Neatness is important in the piano lesson. In order to minimize the spreading of germs, students are asked to wash their hands prior to playing the piano. Fingernails should be trimmed to aid in developing proper finger technique. Long hair should be pulled back in a way that does not obstruct their view of the keyboard. Gum chewing is not permitted during piano lessons
- Students should arrive on time and be prepared with all music books, theory, and assignment books needed for the lesson. Theory assignments are to be completed at home. Students are expected to practice daily for 30-45 minutes, depending on their playing level. Theory is expected to be completed during this time but cannot constitute more than 5-10 minutes of the practice period
- Parents and siblings accompanying the piano student are welcome to make themselves comfortable in the waiting area during the lesson. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to sit in on their children’s lessons, if the teacher agrees that they do so
- Students may not be dropped off unless arrangements have been made with the instructor prior to the lesson
- Please be prompt with your lesson time. Time will not be taken from the following lesson to accommodate late arrivals
Adult Lessons Private lessons are available for adult students of all levels. Adult students are invited to participate in all the recitals, achievement days, and master classes held during the year.

Attendance
The time scheduled for each student’s
lesson is reserved for his or her exclusive use; rescheduling is not
guaranteed. Notification by the student of inability to attend a private lesson
does not excuse payment for the lesson, whether taken
or missed. Unavoidable absences will be made up only when possible.
Advanced notice of one month must be given before termination of lessons. Payment for one month's worth of lessons must be rendered if lessons terminate unexpectedly. Dismissal Students may be dismissed for any of the following reasons: ¯ Repeated failure to attend lessons or repeated late arrivals to lessons ¯ Repeated failure to prepare for the lessons ¯ Behavior or attitude problems ¯ Nonpayment of tuition or other expenses |
